Nick Cohen – Filmmaker, Producer
Nick is a filmmaker and co-founder of Cove Media, developing distinctive, character-driven film and television with an international outlook.
Raised in Southeast London within immigrant communities, his work explores themes of migration, identity and resilience, often through a lens of dark humour. His early practice was shaped through collaboration with refugee and migrant communities, developing documentary and verbatim projects with organisations including the Refugee Council and Migrant Resource Centre—establishing a long-term commitment to socially rooted storytelling.
Nick’s work has received critical recognition, with his contributions to London Unplugged praised for its “harsh and humane” portrait of the capital (The Times), while his debut feature Beginners Luck, co-directed with James Callis, premiered at the BFI London Film Festival and secured a UK theatrical release. His projects are defined by a distinctive tonal balance of humour and emotional depth.
An alumnus of the BBC Drama Academy, he has also worked across the BBC, Channel 4, the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, bringing a performance-led and development-focused approach to his work across screen and stage.
Alongside BAFTA-nominated producer Helen Veale, he is developing a slate at Cove Media including The Housesitters and The Man Who Snapped His Fingers, an adaptation of work by Fariba Hachtroudi, championed by Annie Ernaux, Nobel Laureate.
At Cove Media, Nick combines a distinctive creative voice with a strong track record of delivery, positioning the company as a home for filmmaker-led projects with both cultural and commercial reach.
